So many changes were afoot, why not a baby, too? How hard could it be? With a merry chuckle and a total lack of any sort of intelligent consideration for the future, we began “trying.” It didn’t take long. I’d left Texas after twenty-nine years to be with Julie, and I was still adjusting to the upper Midwest. Julie was young, in her early twenties, and I was starting over after a childless first marriage had sucked the life and the better part of a decade out of me. We’d been married a few months, and we’d been discussing the future, one with fabulous new jobs in some exotic new location that was in no way Kalamazoo, and that future had kids in it, too. I suppose it shouldn’t have been a surprise at all. Julie’s pregnancy wasn’t a huge surprise to us. ![]() 5/21/2023 0 Comments His Wicked Kiss by Gaelen Foley![]() ![]() And she is a temptation he cannot afford. ![]() Ian is mesmerized by Georgie’s alluring mystique but burdened by a dark secret. ![]() When Ian Prescott, the Marquess of Griffith, arrives on a mission to defuse the threat of war, she is immediately drawn to the mysterious and darkly handsome diplomat, and cannot resist provoking the hidden lust that smolders beneath his cool surface. Keeping a house, Duras explains in “ Practicalities” (1987), is an endless struggle to impose order on the chaos of everyday experience. She felt strongly that the Spanish were wrong about gazpacho, which should be made with water, not broth, and despite her hellacious drinking and prolific output (more than fifty novels, plays and films) she made sure that the shelves of her country home were stocked with the necessities: wine, potatoes, butter, oil, garlic, insulating tape, steel wool, and nuoc mam. She made her name writing about the agonies of her own eros in ruthless, blanched sentences-and yet she could also knit socks, sew a set of pajamas, and repair a lamp. The story of the great French modernist Marguerite Duras is rarely told as a tale of household management, despite her obvious talent for it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Since then, he's made it his mission to figure out why boilers explode, killing many innocent passengers. I think I wrote the first draft of “Leftovers” in one day in the summer of 2009. I think I wrote the first draft of “The Fat Artist” concurrently with Bruno (he has a Bruno-like voice, and also I was thinking constantly about Kafka at the time). So, I wrote the first drafts of those two before Bruno. I bet those two have gone through hundreds of “drafts.” I would take them out and work on them some more every once in a while.
